Paths and walks in one of the oldest villages in the Roero.
The history of the town is closely linked to the Roero family, who had Monticello in fief from 1376 and who had the castle built there, still existing and inhabited, which still dominates it (the manor is included in the "Open Castles" circuit of Lower Piedmont The town is divided into the two centers of Borgo and Villa, located respectively downstream and on the slope of a pleasant hill, at the top of which stands the castle of the Counts Roero.
The origins of the village can be traced back to the ancient Romans. Information relating to the early Middle Ages is scarce, while it is known that from 1241 the town passed from the protection of the Bishop of Asti to that of the Malabaila family.
In 1250 the village was destroyed following the wars between Alba and Asti, and was then rebuilt on the occasion of the passage to the Roeros, which took place in 1376 at the behest of Pope Gregory XI.
Our Langhe and Roero areas have many typical products such as Bra sausage, Piedmontese dishes such as veal with tuna sauce and raw meat, tajarin with meat sauce and the traditional bagna caoda ... then of course he, the king of all typical products : the Alba White Truffle which with its International Fair has been known all over the world for over 80 years.
Really, autumn is no longer the best time but also spring with many events in the area, tasting the most famous typical wines such as Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo, Arneis and Favorita.
In Monticello d'Alba in the last days of June one of the largest events in my village is held: ROERO MON AMOUR.
A big party inside the park of the Conti Roero castle, left at the disposal of the Pro Loco where you can spend 3 days of party with live music, various stands with good food and lots of smiles. Transport by shuttles.
