You should absolutely look at the old historic core, which was declared by UNESCO as a monument of artistic national interest. The Concepción Parish Church is also a National Monument and the Casa de los Balcones (House of the balconies) is a perfect example of the unique architecture of the island.
The city also boasts a botanical garden, La Hijuela del Botánico, with over 3,000 different tropical and subtropical plants, mainly from South and Central America, Africa and Australia. In the city center, the Jardín Victoria (Victoria Gardens), which is also known under the name of Jardines del Marquesado de la Quinta Roja is a recreational green area with many walking paths amid trees and flowers. There is also the mausoleum of Carrara marble, which was designed in 1882 by the French architect Adolph Coquet, the ornate tomb for this Masonic Marqués de la Quinta Roja built. Died as a member of the Masonic Lodge of Taoro, his mother and his widow could not agree on where his remains should be found to rest and the tomb of white marble carvings and niches has not been used for their original purpose. Nobody knows what's inside them.
