Timber-framed house with a garden and a pool, amidst a wonderful nature landscape

The house is situated in the “land of extinct volcanoes” (an area unique in Poland) between the Bober Valley landscape park and the Bober-Katzbach foothills. Bystrzyca is a well-preserved village situated around 400m above sea level and now has the oldest tree (800 years) in Poland which can be found in the medieval cemetery - a second, 19th century, Evangelical cemetery can be found close to the 18th century church and the family home of the famous NASA rocket scientist Wernher Von Braun - about 5 minutes walk away. The village layout is somewhat unusual, as there were two manor houses at its centre. The half-Lusation houses (umgebindehaus) and farm buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries are typical of the area.

Guests have sole use of the whole house and grounds of just under 1 hectare. Relax in privacy in the garden on the four sun loungers on the 400sqm lawn. A large garden parasol is provided for shade at the 8 seater garden table for those hot summer days. A second wooden garden bench can transform into additional seating and a portable barbecue is provided. The swimming pool is available from late June until early September. There are 4/5 secure parking spaces on site and three further spaces on the street. The property is completely fenced and suitable for children and dogs.A single gate provides access to the extinct volcano around 50m from the rear of the property's grounds, where wild strawberries and thyme can be found in abundance.

This is a 200-year-old, timber-framed former bakery. It provides three double rooms, two of around 30sqm and the smaller room around 14sqm - please be aware that this room can only be accessed via the main bedroom, It sleeps up to eight adults (additional space for 2 children under 16 yrs, in bunk beds). Two of the three bedrooms have large wardrobes and desks for working from and are connected by an adjoining foyer which has additional sofa seating and a coffee table..The opposite end of the foyer has an additional dining table area.
The largest bedroom has a king-size bed(150cm wide),bedroom two is furnished with a large, hand-made oak bed (180cm wide) and two single beds, the third double bed in the smaller bedroom is 135cm wide. The latter room additionally has the children's bunk beds.
The biggest bedroom, which has a large Jotul wood-burning stove, can double as a second lounge area. There is a second coal/wood stove in the Music Room and a third, coal-fired stove which provides the central heating (guests usually need only around 10 minutes instruction even if complete novices; we alternatively offer to start up/clean out once a day in the morning for no additional cost).
The Music room (lounge) has a piano, a music system for radio and cds and is on the ground floor along with the first bathroom (WC, bidet, shower and Victorian washstand with basin). This room has a sofa bed and could be used as another place of sleeping.
The bedrooms, second bathroom and the kitchen are upstairs on the first floor. The upstairs bathroom has a Victorian bath, large and wide wet-room, WC and basin.
The spacious kitchen is fully-equipped with a gas stove, oven, large fridge-freezer, smaller cupboard fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee filter machine and dishwasher. It also has a large dining table for eight people.
The large, enclosed garden has an extensive lawn to the rear with an adjacent meadow, orchard and specifically-designed bee garden. There is an extinct volcano 50m to the rear of the grounds which affords good views of the Karkonosze mountains.
There are numerous opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, bird watching, cycling (many routes available locally) horse riding, jogging, dog-walking, kayaking etc The house lies to the west of the Ostrzyca volcano which is set in several hectares of a Natura 2000 nature reserve, 5km away. Within the reserve are numerous cycle routes.

The nearest town with shops, a post office, a butcher, a baker, a café, a petrol station and two supermarkets is 5km away. The area is full of unknown sights, such as castles, towers and unusual museums. It has the highest density of palaces of any similar-sized region in the World.

The house is situated in the centre of a village in a valley where the majority of passing vehicles are logging trucks and tractors. Incredible views can be had by walking the slopes of the valley to see the Karkonosze mountains including Sniezka (1603m) and smaller summits along the Czech border - readily visible from the higher grounds of the garden on a clear day.
Many mammals frequent the garden including roe deer, red deer, wild boar, foxes, badgers, mink and pine martins and over 100 different species of birds have been recorded in, or flying over, the garden and meadow including golden eagle, goshawk, eagle owl, lesser spotted eagle, white stork, etc. Our regular visitors to the kitchen bird feeder includes hawfinch, bullfinch, middle spotted woodpecker, brambling, nuthatch etc
Four bicycles can be provided free of charge for the numerous cycle routes close to the house. The Bobr river is 4km away and is a good spot for kayaking, wild swimming and fishing (permits can be purchased).

“The house is spacious, stylish and preserves the style you'd expect from a historic building. You won't find Ikea furniture there which makes for a refreshing change from most vacation houses we've been to. That's very unique and hard to find - for that reason alone we'd recommend the house to all seasoned travelers looking for authenticity and style.
The owners go out of their way to make the stay pleasant, and can provide interesting advice on what to see, where to eat and what to do.

The only thing worth complaining about is the relatively dated set of kitchen appliances. The fridge is old and takes it's sweet time to cool your things, the kitchen stove is fairly antique (although it does work fine) and the microwave has seen better days. If you are spoiled by modern, high quality appliances and plan to do a lot of cooking, this will probably irritate you a bit. Not a big deal, but we'd recommend the owners to upgrade the equipment at some point in time.”
