The best holiday resorts 2014 - and this time, five of them!
It's that time again! We have selected the best holiday resorts of the year. And not just in three countries like in previous years, but for the first time in five! This year, Croatia and Spain have joined Germany, Italy and the Netherlands as the countries in which we have identified the most popular holiday resorts.
And to come directly to the point: The 2014 winners are Warnemünde (Germany), Malcesine (Italy), Enkhuizen (Netherlands), Moraira (Spain), and Split (Croatia).
The resort reviews that holidaymakers have submitted in the previous year form the basis for the award. Those who have already booked with us will know that you can rate the visited holiday resort as well as the accommodation on a scale of 1 (not recommended) to 5 (highly recommended). From all the places that have received a minimum number of reviews, we then determine by holiday destination the place that has received the best ratings on average.
You, dear holidaymakers, have therefore made a decision and selected Warnemünde, Malcesine, Enkhuizen, Moraira and Split as the best holiday resorts for 2014!
We shall introduce you to the winning resorts in the coming week as part of a short series. We shall begin today with the best German holiday resort - Warnemünde.
Warnemünde: The widest beach by the Baltic Sea
For years, the seaside resort of Warnemünde has featured among the places which receive above-average reviews from our holidaymakers on a regular basis. With an average score of 4.84, not only is it the best German resort this year, but the outright leader overall of all the resorts that have been evaluated. Hence, for the fourth time, after a detour to the Alps last year (Berchtesgaden was the winner), the atraveo prize goes to the German Baltic Sea coast, where Zingst (2010 and 2011) and Binz (2012) were previously able to secure the trophy for themselves.
In addition to many recreational opportunities, the sandy beach in Warnemünde will especially delight you. At 150 metres, it is the widest beach on the German Baltic Sea coast. From the beach, you can quickly reach the promenade and the two landmarks of Warnemünde: The 37-metre-high lighthouse that can be climbed in the summer, and the "Tea Pot" - a spacious beach pavilion whose architecture is deemed as particularly well-made and which houses several dining facilities. In addition to the resort itself, the beautiful surrounding area with numerous excursion possibilities, such as to the Hanseatic city of Rostock, will also tempt you.
Travel tip: at the beginning of July, the Warnemünde week - a large sailing regatta, in which more than 2,000 sailors from around the world participate – takes place. A colourful fair accompanies the event every year.
This Friday, we will continue our journey through the best holiday resorts 2014 with the Italian winner, Malcesine.
